Tracking your Assets
June 2008. AWE has improved it's hardware platform to allow for more flexibility in solution possibilities. The new smaller form factor opens possibilites up for applications that have size and weight constraints. Improved energy efficiency and additional general purpose I/O ports add to the improvement of an already class leading platform.
July 2008. AWE is scaling for mass production of its high end low cost remote platform. Through development and integration of smaller more cost effective building blocks AWE has reduced the size of its basic platform. The hardware will be locally manufactured, allowing for the higher unit yields and shorter delivery times. AWE will soon be in the position to produce much smaller hardware platforms in higher volumes at higher quality standards, reducing failure rates in the field.
July 2008. Beware of suppliers of tracking equipment who claim high recovery rates of vehicles using inferior VHF/UHF/RFID tag technology and triangulation. GPS/GSM/Satellite tracking technologies are far superior to VHF/UHF/RFID tag technology. GPS/GSM/Satellite tracking enables you to locate your asset to within 10 square meters eg. your backgarden, while VHF/UHF/RFID tag technology only enables the location of the asset to within 10 000 square meters eg. your suburb!
August 2006. AWE has retrieved GPS data from the Pilanesberg Lioness (Panthera leo) collared with AWERAD technology, successfully concluding the technology trial. The information was downloaded to a laptop remotely in the field using a UHF radio link, without disturbing the pride. Numerous kill sites were identified and the kills positively identified by Lion research expert Craig Tambling (University of Pretoria), using the data gathered from the AWERAD collar.
